Finally Dick Dastardly reveals some screenshots from the highly anticipated successor of the his previous hit map, Golgotha.
Dick presents the theme of the map with this intro:
"The sun-baked streets of Golgotha seem peaceful enough, but appearances can be deceptive. A group of terrorists is gathering in an old warehouse, ready to launch an attack on the nearby embassy. Little do they realize that the authorities have been tipped off and a special forces unit is already closing in on them..."

A few days ago, Dick Dastardly ( the creator of ut_campus ) released the final version of his beautiful map, Golgotha. This map has been in beta for a long time and it was about time.

Denmark versus the Netherlands.

This sunday, 2 national teams met eachother for a showdown. Denmark and the Netherlands. The first map was streets which ended up in a 5-5 tie between the two teams. Alkoholger was player of that map, hitting everything that moved with his SR-8 was really impressive to watch.

After the nerve-breaking tie it was time for the next map : Abbey.
Denmark had some trouble getting warmed up on the first coupple of rounds, we were down 2 to 5, but after some bitch talking, whining and some teamkills. We started to take control of the map. Mentor defianently saved the day with something I've never seen him do before. While 4 DK players and 1 NL player were down, Mentor was lurking around by himself on Abbey. Mentor vs 4 NL players. He took them all down and it was just an incredible sight. We won the map 7-4.


All in all, it was a fucking great game, it was exciting and very different from just any game on a pub. I think the Player of the game award goes to Mentor for his great move taking down 4 NL players. Laugh of the game probably goes to Spectar for making a Lemming by jumping out of the window from the Central room on abbey, I'm sorry Spactar, but that was just too funny.

Abjects close to loss vs swedish clan C54 !

C54 and Abjects has been taunting eachother for some time and we came to the conclusion that we had to work it out like men. Date and time were set, the chosen maps from both teams were Uptown and Casa, the Abjects were one man short, but still played on 4 vs 5..

Uptown was up to begin with and first thing that happened was 4 abjects getting legdamage from a fall trying to grab the ledge on the apartment. C54 showed great teamplay on this map by using eachother for some sweet jump boosts which lead them to a nice position, cornering in the Abjects. The Abjects rode the elevator. We won the first round, but C54 came strong and took the lead by 2 points. Abjects ultra-super-duper sharpshooter LegoManser came in a killing spree last on the map and we came to a 6-6 tie.


The second map in the match was Casa, chosen by C54, which was showed to us as early as the first round of the map, 4 Abjects got slaughtered while C54 almost didn't get a scratch. LegoManser started off by shooting his own teamate, Starfox, directly to his head with his Assault Rifle. "I swear it wasn't on purpose, the rifle sort of aimed itself." - frustrated LegoManser said, though he still pulled a team-win home by taking down 4 C54. 5 kills total !!.. Jimmy The Saint showed good sportsmanship by waiting when LegoManser told him he was lagging ( We always take fair players in mind ). Abjects took 6 wins in a row and simply felt unstopable at that point. "FFS I'm playing like a dick" - Freak, new member of the Abjects screamed. Abjects started to get shaky nerves and tried to hold back on the offensive to keep the good score. That was obviously a very bad move because all of a sudden, C54 started rumbling us down round by round. Not only they scared the shit out of A+, but they also made a solid comeback.. 5-6. C54 came with some nice ambush attempts which seemed to split the Abjects up around on the map. Yet, the Abjects stood tall and won the map with a 8-6 victory.


I can't make a player of the match award for this one because I felt that we were truly the fantastic four. Bandages were on everytime, covering eachother, staying together, backing eachother up. It was probably one of the Abjects best games and I'm sure it was fun for C54 too. Total score was 14-12 to the Abjects. GG.

Fourdee, the great mapper that gifted the community with maps like Ut_InterChange and Ut_InterModel just announced on the UT forums that development on his upcoming map show off Ut_HallowedHills is closing in, and that public release is just around the corner.

Fourdee writes:
I keep saying "one week" and that's probably how much time it would take working all day for a week, but I'm not really sure how much longer - definitely not more than a month, maybe as little as a week...
Players expect a map to be essentially perfect or it seems sloppy. I want to ensure that it looks reasonably "authentic", or as authentic as a fantasy environment which depicts noplace in particular should be, and that there are enough interesting paths between places, and generally make the map coherent in texturing and space.
There's a way to make the terrain textures blend much more smoothly than they are, so I will post new screenshots when that's working. It should look much better with fine tuning.
The town will be filled out even more with decorative buildings (which you can't enter) to give it that narrow, steep alley feeling.

I think it's quite unnecessary to point out that community expectations towards this release are tremendeous. I can't remember a map so awaited since the releases of Ut_Rommel2 and Ut_Laneway2.

Devlin does Chicago and updates Japan Garden

This night, about an hour ago, Devlin released a so called map pack, containing an improved version of the good old Japan Garden, and a brand new map named Chicago. I've played around on those maps for like 30 min. (Offline), and here's what I think of them.Since I tested the map offline, I wont comment on the playability on the maps.

Japan Garden 2:


Besides from missing the water and sky textures I must say, I'm very disappointed. The size of the map has been cut down from very big to very small. The improvements for making the FPS better, has ruined the looks of the map. The textures are quite dull to look at, the Japanese design of the map has almost disappeared. It's not a map where you run around say: "WOW", just by looking at it.
I give it 1 out of 5 red A's.
The one A is for actually making a map.

Chicago:


When I saw the title of the map, I thought it would be about the "real" Chicago. You know, Sears Towers, the Hancock Buildingand other monuments Chicago is known for. Well, I didn't see any high buildings. But I felt a great atmosphere. The rain, the sounds, the lightning... Perfect
Besides that the map isn't interesting. It doesn't look done. The sewer-system looks like utterly crap. Most of the indoor-places screams for texturing, and the overall movement on the maps seems quite boring. But ..the player clips are made perfect. There's no chance to get up on places you shouldn't be, since the player clips covers whole fields, and are not like "invincible" walls, as Abbey.
I give it 2 out of 5 red A's.
One A for making an incredible fantastic atmosphere and one A for making player clips the way they should be done.

Abject victory against Godz

Tonight we fought a friendly CW against Godz. It was a 5 on 5 on their server. The first map was Abbey (Godz's map choice)and the second map was Uptown (Abjects map choice) The war was fair play all the way and let Abjects to a victory of 25-7. Due to some heavy lag on the server the second map was played with only 3 on 3. It was a good game and we fought well.

We're down to the semi-finals. Who will take home the victory?

[IQS] versus [dW]
[HV] versus UP*

Since I don't know much about [dW] I strongly think that [IQS] will win that match, but [dW] has fought bravely and showed they have what it takes, since they have come so far already. I think they'll be a tough opponent for [IQS] but I do not think they got what it takes to win the match. Especially after [IQS] has beaten Valour| and should have a really high confidence.

Second match is more open. UP* is generally a good team, they know how to win in this game. But then again [HV] has shown us some really good gaming since they've come so far. Now we know that [HV] is able to fight in all kinds of circumstances. They have shown us they can rush, and I know they can camp, they showed us (Abjects) in our latest official war that they were able to do so, I'm still aggravated about that match, where [HV]Mentor spend half the time of ut_streets under the staircase in NRG Residential and they manage to win the war with 1 round! Anyway, it will be a close match. UP* will defently camp the best they can, and I'm sure [HV] will do everything it takes to get the UP* force crushed.

In the final I think/hope we'll see [IQS] versus [HV].
Since I'm Danish and so is [HV] I have my hopes on they'll win (even though' we're mortal enemies).
Denmark is always the little country that beats the shit out of the bigger once ;) Remember EM in football 1992?
Denmark got allowed to compete in the cup 10 days before it started, since Yugoslavia got disqualified, because of some war-thingy going on down there. (I hate when politics and sports gets mixed!)
But that was the reason Denmark could call themselves Europe's best football team for 4 years, YAY!
I really hope the same thing will happen in the ClanBase UrbanTerror Spring Cup.

New map from Sweetnutz

Yesterday Sweetnutz updated his .plan file on The Silicon Ice website. He revealed that he’s currently working on a new, yet untitled snowy terrain map.

The concept for this map was to create a terrain map that was divided into sections so that the detail of each section could still be fairly high, without having huge polycounts across the entire map. I did everything in my power to break this level up into 4-5 chunks that do not have visibility to each other. The map itself is not nearly as "tight" as Casa, should be a little easier to snipe, although there are tons of trees. Oh yea the snow is new too, thanks to some new precipitation code by 27.

No doubt the community has high expectations to a new map from Sweetnutz after his tremendous success with his last map Casa. It’ll be interesting to follow the progress of this map.

Sweetnutz will be available for answering questions about the map if posted in this thread in the official Urban Terror forum.

Battle of the titans?

Monday evening, around 22:00 CET, the Abjects and the International Quake Squad showed up for what was to be a mayhem for the Abjects.

Abbey 4-12
It started with chaos for the Abjects. IQS were everywhere. When you walked around a corner, either you felt a G36 shot to the head, or a SR-8 shot to the waist. It was painful for us. Grenades were flying, we were blinded at least half the time of that map. We were just sitting there, waiting to get slaughtered. Never the less we finally pulled our self together with the score being 11-0 in favor of IQS. Our teamplay started to work, our communication started to kick in, suddenly we seemed invincible. We took 3 rounds in a row, lost a close one, and took one more round. If the timelimit had been higher I’m sure we would have started to gain in on them.

Through Abbey several players showed incredible skill. From IQS: Itchy and RedKiller really knew how to aim and throw grenades. I especially remember one round were Itchy slaughtered 4 players within 5 seconds. A grenade was thrown towards the fountain, blinded everyone surrounding that area. Itchy managed to shoot down an Abject standing on the balcony, shoot down an Abject standing behind the fountain, shoot down a teammate who were running into the crossfire and finally shoot down an Abject standing on the stairs. That move was incredible, and will not be forgotten for a while.
Our Hjorten shouldn't remain unnoticed. Many of the rounds we won were because of his fearless and cold hearted aiming. He was able to finish of many players from IQS. He jumped fearless towards them, and with his trustee UMP slaughtered them like he was a madman.

Uptown 5-7
As everybody knows Uptown and Abbey are two totally different maps, so was the way they were played. We certainly prefer maps with more levels, like Uptown or Streets. As the score can tell we did play better, even though' we didn't start well. Our usual tactic: "Quick! Everybody in the elevator" didn't seem to work. One well timed grenade took out Fumle and LegoManser and wounded the rest of the Abjects. Then it was just pure mayhem in the apartment. IQS won that round easily. It took us some time, but we did manage to lure their tactics. And did counter it with success. We played very even, most round ended with 1on1's. But it remains a fact that IQS still were skilled enough to take home the victory on that map also.

The player of that map was without doubt Proba. I've never in my life seen such skilled use of the SR-8 before. It was incredible. Everything that was moving would eventually end up in Proba's scope.
LegoManser also showed some great skill, mostly jumping though'. He did end up beating a couple of IQS with nothing than his Beretta. Quite incredible stunts he dared to do.

We're now down to the finals in the European Clanbase cup. The Cup Final: Useless Pedestrians vs. International Quake Squad will be played Tuesday 7 May at 21h cet. The match will be shoutcasted by Oswald from SID, the people that made Urban Terror, over the TSN network: http://tsncentral.com. Load up your winamp and listen in. GTV will also be available for this match.
The battle for 3rd place, House Valhalla vs. Deadly Warriors will be played Sunday 5 May at 20h cet. GTV might be available for that match too.

New mapper shows off

Today Invis from the Point Blank mod devteam revealed that he’s currently working on a his first, yet unnamed, map for Urban Terror. Invis clearly shows great skills regarding lighting, texturing and sense for detail with his released screenshot previews. The map looks almost photo-realistic.


To quote Invis: "The level of detail I have planned for this map will send you poor Dial-up and voodoo, TNT, Video people into hysterics. But don’t fret, the map will still be playable. I’m just very partial to eye candy and detail.
After all this is a realism mod, shouldn't it look real?"

Personally I’m really looking forward to that map, and hope it plays as great it looks. There’s yet no overhead screenshot available.
I think, I could have a nice clanwar on that map, and I'm definitely sure I could have a great vacation on it.

Ut_tequila

This Sunday we were lucky to beta test a map from two new mappers. Ut_tequila is their first map.
The result of the work of [charlo]Elbibi and [charlo]Deask who started development three months ago is quite impressive. The map was ment to be the clan map of [ZFC] - a new born French clan, which quickly merged with clan [charlo].


The map was first intended to have the same atmosphere as casa and abbey, but with better gameplay. They totally succeeded in that task, as u will discover :]. Traps, breaking floors, and the crow waiting for some breakfast in the sky gives this map a very special atmosphere.
Another strong point of the map is the number of possible ways to move in the map. It is really amazing. Great gameplay. The map will be released this evening if all goes right.

[HV] wins bronze in the CB cup

The battle for the 3. place in the ClanBase cup is over. After a close match the outcome was victory for the old school Danish clan House Valhalla [HV] over the Portuguese clan deadly Warriors [dW].

"It was very tense and all that mattered was victory. The fight was about ending 3rd in clanbase q3ut cup which we did. The first map on uptown was amazing. We won with 9 rounds (10-1) with our l33t team play :). On abbey, which we hadn’t played much in cw´s, they owned us 11-3, but the last and third map (casa) we managed to win with some margin. It all ended 2-1. One bad thing was the admin stating that ping/lag was equal on the clanbase server. Well it wasn´t!! But at least it didn’t cost us the victory. GG HV and GG dW."

Back at the Office

After several month of hard work ONda[WaC] is finally able to release the rework of the great Beta 1.27 hit of a map: Office by Raunchy. Raunchy is also known for the Beta 2.x map ut_Cambridge.
The layout of the map is unchanged from the Beta 1.27 version, since Raunchy lost the original .map file. Raunchy has helped ONda a bit out himself in the progress of updating the map for Beta 2.x


It now works with all game modes from Beta 2.x, has a lot of changed textures and almost all textures now have surface effects. The map now seems real fresh, and definitely does meet the standards one could expect of a Beta 2.0 map. ONda[WaC] has added location information for teamplay game types. Each team has 3 different spawns. There are different spawns for CTF & CAH and of course for FFA which were mostly unchanged.

Yesterday in the official UT forums a nice surprise was delivered. An yet totally unknown mapper named "Iop" posted six (6) new maps – 3 "final" and 3 beta maps. This community was quite astonished. All the maps, even the beta’s, seemed to be of an extraordinary high quality.
First "final" map revealed was UT_Stonville – a map that seemed to contain an incredible atmosphere and an extremely high level of detail:

Next "final" map presented to the drooling audience was UT_Saloon. A map based on a western theme and again with a very high level of detail and a apparently great layout.


But there was yet more eye candy to come. The third "final" map apparently contained a true ut_rommel like atmosphere, and at a first glance it looked at least as detailed and of a equally well thought out layout.

But "Iop" was unstoppable. He just had to show the community yet 3 more maps which he labelled "beta" maps in development.
They all seemed to be of very high quality and looked very well thought out. First beta map was UT_Blackbridge:

Next beta was something parts of the community has been craving for ages. A true two base sniper map. "Iop" showed us his suggestion for such a map: UT_sniperParadise.

But "Iop" still had more to come. Last he showed us UT_Shotin:


All maps were available for download, and getting my sweaty hands on them could only be too late. I rushed over to the download site and grabbed the maps.

What a disappointment!

All maps were just as beautiful as the screenshots suggested and all looked as they could provide really great gameplay, but my FPS on my really high end pc dropped to below 30 FPS and in most cases around 15 FPS running around on the maps alone with no bots or players. There were overlapping brushes in many places, there were no player clips and you could get stuck in the brushes even at spawn, a lot of Z-fighting was going on and some textures was missing. The mapper had not used hint brushes on any of the maps.
The maps was very bad received by the community, and "Iop" decided immediately to reclassify all maps as "beta", but he seems very eager to work on all the maps to all above mentioned issues are eliminated.

Personally I hope "Iop" succeed in releasing at least a few of those maps, since both the ideas and the atmosphere/theme of some of them are simply awesome. I wish him best of luck and sincerely hope that he’ll run a betatest before his next "release", and damn I wish most of the maps will pass it.

One thing I don’t doubt is that "Iop" has an incredible talent, and could go very far if he stays focused, research engine and game limitations and features and don’t rush releases like this.

Elbibi updates ut_tequila.

Great news from Elbibi today. The map ut_tequilla has just been updated. A number of issues with the first released beta have now been resolved. The spawn points has been corrected and the FPS is now much better after a major optimization of the map.


The updated map is now available in our files section, hurry up and download it.

The new map from MadHarver UT_Powerline is now in public beta test. It’s a map originally developed as a somewhat dedicated sniper map, with lot of roof top access and very large open areas, but MadHarver states that he’ll try to balance the layout in the release version for other weapons to become more effective.



To get one thing clear, it really IS a large map and the large open areas results in high r-speeds, with quite heavy FPS drops.
The atmosphere in the map is immense, lots of dark areas (thus some seem a little too dark), the lightning is spooky and the use of sounds is great. A nice touch is a flock of almost threatening crows with hostile sounding screams. They scared the crap out of me. From an artistic point of view the map is quite refreshing with lots of new original textures and a bunch of new prefabs. There is a n issue with scaling in the map, doors and windows seems a little weird some places, but MadHarver is definitely on the right track with this one, and if he gets r_speeds under control in the realease I’ll guarantee that this map will get quite some time on the servers.

The Last Outpost.

Another new map just vent public beta. This time it’s UT_Outpost by Linkerhode. It’s a relatively tight map with a deserted tropical outpost as the setting. The r_speeds are very good, but yet again they ought to be, with very few large open spots and low (in some places extremely low) level of geometric detail.


Come on, cannons with square barrels are somewhat ridiculous. The textures seem fit for the theme, but some are missing and a lot of them are very badly aligned. The lightning is fair (even though some places seems illuminated from no apparent light source) but again not too big a task adding a tropical bright daylight mood to a map. All in all, the map didn't really catch me, and I must admit that the theme seems a bit old and "Casa-like", but then again that's just my personal opinion as a lover of more "western world"-urban map themes. Anyway, the map could provide good gameplay, and the layout seems well thought out. Yesterday ]{ooL|D34D revealed some screenshots from his new map in progress: Ut_Social, and I must admit that the map turns me on quite a bit.


It’s fairly refreshing to see a more urban-like map than the current trend (or so it seems to me) of maps with tropical or Middle Eastern themes. Furthermore D34D is using Ydnar’s smashing urban textures, and alone that fact should ensure an intense and realistic atmosphere. The map will according to D34D not be too big, and FPS optimization will be an issue taken into consideration. All in all I’m really looking forward to this map. D34D states that the map is at 70% of total development, and that he in a month or so will be ready to do a beta test.

Tequilla final build released.

Great news from Elbibi and Deask. Today I recieved the following mail from Elbibi:



Deask and I offer you the final version of Tequilla, a map for Urban Terror. Get it at: http://www.urbanterror-fr.fr.st/

Changes are :
• map was separated in 4 sections for more FPS
• more brushes optimized, resulting in more FPS
• added and modified models for a better rendering
• lights optimized
• higher passages were modified to improve the tactical aspect of the map

There’s nothing to do for breaking wood, except doing it like glass, cause UT didn’t allow anything else to break (Q3 engine problem I think).
We authorize servers admins to use our map, and SID to make it an official one.
Please be nice to us, it’s our first map :).

Well, what are you waiting for ? This is one of the 5 best community maps for Urban Terror so far, definitely head over to our files section and download that baby.

As some may know the mapper MasHeeN has been working on a map named UT_Eagle for quite some time now.
MasHeeN introduces the map this way:
"Based on an idea from the all time classic film "Where Eagles Dare" and heavily modified for some good UT action the map has the cable car, a castle and a village area."
Yesterday MasHeeN made a private beta test version #1 of the map available. Unfortunately I was too late to participate in the test, but I was able to give the map a spin with a couple of friends.
Even though it’s a huge map with lots of large open outdoor and indoor areas, the FPS is excellent. There’s a great use of visual blocking. The textures are for most parts original and really close to the movie that inspired the map. The Atmosphere of the map is enormous, and you really feel like being in a mountain location, thanks to wonderful moonlight lightning, the great textures and the sound of wind blowing.
The routes in the map seem very well thought out, but maybe a bit complex.
The enormous size of the map will itself make certain game types impossible. I really can't see any TS action on that map, but for a large CTF battle the map is awesome, maybe even the best map out there at the moment. MasHeeN will be correcting issues that did arise during private beta test #1, and Private test #2 will be scheduled next week.
I have a feeling the release is very soon to come, and I must admit I'm really looking forward to some CTF action on the map, and the planned objective based game types for Urban Terror beta 3 might really do that map justice.

In case you missed it...
Yup, you heard it right... ut_pgrounds has been updated!
A few new textures and some of the barricades have been changed in their look, but 98% of the gameplay and layout are the same. It's MUCH easier to look at now.
The main change is the addition of a night version included in the same .pk3 file as the day version. 2 maps, one .pk3, only one download of less than 4 megs!
The map names are:
ut_pgrounds-day
ut_pgrounds-nite
This version will NOT affect the original version ut_pgrounds for compatability with the OGL map list.

The Charlots-tequila map pack has been released !
The pack contains ut_small-tequila.bsp, ut_Tequila.bsp and ut_tequila-sunrise.




Ut_tequila-sunrise was the 1st version of ut_tequila , nicest, biggest textures, but.... very few fps (buy radeon 9700 pro or geforceFX, else, you damn lag :). We have included it for fun, cause this version rox :). Suggested player load is 32.

New Map Depot!

As we all know the old map depot from www.urbanterror.net is pretty dead. The last few months new maps were really hard to get (like ut_forest, ut_rumble, etc.).

According to Invis from www.s8s.net (and the lad who made ut_pointblank) he discussed this problem with Oswald. Let me quote him:

"After a great amount of discussion we decided to come up with a new map depot that has not just every map to dowload from a fat pipe, but reviews and screenshots of each of them. This way mappers can submit thier maps to one location that all community players can go to find it. This will be a portal style site with information for mappers as well, a place where they can store and find resources for mapping for urban terror. like Models/prefabs/mapobjects etc."

This is great news and especially for the mappers. The map depot is already under construction. And from this pic you can see it already is coming together:

As the Clanbase Spring Cup already started, The abjects had to play their first match in the Premier League against Useless Pedestrians.

Great map: Grand park

When I surfed through the ut forums this afternoon my eye fell on this map. This map is based on a big sports park with tennis courts, a football field, a basketballfield etc.

The map is in general very well constructed my fps were at a steady 125 in some open parts of the map it dropped to around 100.

While searching through some UT sites I found a new urban terror map which I found good enough to write a silly newspost about. Nowadays this mod really lacks (good) third party maps.

It's still in its beta stages but I can see that this man has talent. The map really has a south Europian feeling to it like ut_sliema and it also feels a bit ut_abbish (prolly because of the roof textures he used). The textures the lad used are great he made a lot of new textures which fit perfectly in this map. Also he thought about vis_blocking and that's why my fps were at a steady 125.

We'll try to get online for real within the next week or so. Our site has obviously been hacked by retards in the 8 to 10 years it was neglected. We'll get this sorted out.
